Genesis 1-45

It is Day 4 of the 90 reading challenge and I am going to process the answers to these 2 questions based on what I have read so far.

  1. What did you learn about God?
  2. What is your take away for today?

So here is what I am blown away by. Moses is writing this book to the Israelites to help them know who they are, giving them an anchor, as they have left slavery in Egypt and are journeying to the Promised Land. They are literally walking by faith everyday to a giant unknown ahead of them. Moses, by God’s prompting of course, has gone into great detail about where the nations around them have descended from to help them understand the world around them. Moses is showing God’s faithfulness over and over again through the stories of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph and how they are God’s special chosen people over all the other nations of the world. And you know how God has Moses start this whole gig- sure with the story of creation but it is showing us a rhythm to live by!! The 6 days of creation are followed by God resting on the 7th! SABBATH! It is right here at the very beginning because it is so important. I don’t know how I have missed this all my life! God long’s for us to adopt His rhythm. He is trying to show us the best way to live! Humanity was designed to work out of rest not work to rest!

Another snip-it of challenge for me has been the whole story of Abraham. His faith blows me away. I believe the promise that God has started a work in me and He will bring it to completion. I trust His dreams and plans are better than anything I could come up with. I just have no idea where the Lord is taking me vocationally right now. Some days the mental battles while of waiting for what is next feel lethal.

Abraham had to have faith that the Messiah was coming. I have the luxury of standing on the fact that He came, and my faith doesn’t match this reality most days. Abraham did have some pretty amazing visions and encounters with God, but man he had to wait SOOOOOOOO LONG!! I am 36 and squirming in my seat and restless not sure what the Lord is up to. He was 100 before Isaac was born! He had to trust God’s words to him for more years than I want to be alive, and I have the Holy Spirit with me everyday, all the time. I really can’t imagine Abraham’s faith. Walking faithfully to sacrifice the son I waited 100 years for… Hebrews 11 tells us he reasoned God could raise the dead…SO MUCH FAITH! I am just challenged to wait faithfully until the Lord shows me what He has next for me.

What have you been challenged by and loved during this first few days of our journey? Or maybe you aren’t on this 90 day journey…how have you been challenged by scripture lately?

I am a wife, a mom, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and intimidated by making a short summary of myself. I am an Enneagram 2. I have a heart for discipleship. My favorite thing is to walk alongside of someone as they take courageous steps in their life.
