Most Important Thing About You

I want you to clear your mind, take a few deep breaths, don’t scroll down just yet…

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read the word….

God.

What was the first thing that came to your mind? Was it a strict cop image that came to your mind? Was it an authority figure keeping track of all you do right and wrong? Or was it a loving Heavenly Father that couldn’t love you any more or any less than He does right now? Was it an open armed Dad waiting for you to crawl up in His lap?

A.W. Tozer says, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us…the most portentous fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like.” (The Knowledge of the Holy )

Our view of God, what we really think of Him, has an intrinsic ability to shape who we become. It dictates the voices that get to play in our heads telling us our worth and value. How we then see ourselves spills over into how we relate and respond to others.

What was your image of God that first came to mind? Do you need to spend some time finding out the truth of who this Heavenly Father is that you are serving? Building a trusting relationship takes two things: truth and time.

Truth: The Bible is full of truth and can reveal who God is to your heart and mind. Read his word and ask the Lord to reveal himself to you.

Time: Unhurried time with God. Sit with him. Don’t just read and pray. Sit is silence and simply enjoy his presence. Frequency and intimacy builds trust.

My personal answer to this question can change on a daily basis. I can get lost among the weeds of life. I get bogged down in trying to become something forgetting that He already says I am complete in Him. When my ‘margines’ in life get full, and I haven’t been stopping mid-day to just sit with him, even for just 5 minutes, my view of God shifts to someone I must perform for or please. He is so gracious though. If I will notice, catch myself and turn towards him, He lovingly calls me back to His heart.

What comes to your mind today when you think about God?

I am a wife, a mom, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and intimidated by making a short summary of myself. I am an Enneagram 2. I have a heart for discipleship. My favorite thing is to walk alongside of someone as they take courageous steps in their life.
